Hello! My name is Anika Amin, and I am a high school student. All throughout my life, I have had a love for art. Whether that was drawing, painting, sculpture, or examining pieces, I was interested in all of it. This passion for art inspired me to take multiple art focused classes in high school, where a developed real art skills and learned about different art styles. I also took many history classes in school, where art and art movements was a huge focus. In addition to that, I went to an art history summer program, where I got to learn about art history and also have real exposure to real historical art pieces.
My Mission
Over the past year, I have been looking into more about art history. To start, I researched a general definition of what art history is. According to Christopher Jones, Art history is the study of artistic expression around the world: across cultures and throughout time periods. When people think of art history, they think of the renaissance, impressionism, and mostly European Artists. However, there is some much more to Art History outside of the European sphere. As I have a non-european background myself, I want to explore the parts of Art History linked to my background, in South Asia. While I am doing my research, I am asking myself 2 specific questions. What are the factors that shift South Asian art history? What are the main characteristics of art in South Asia throughout the years?
